Boat capsizes in Essequibo River; Elderly Captain feared drowned

RIVER-BOAT-2[www.inewsguyana.com] – At approximately 12:00 midnight yesterday December 21, 2014, a Motor Vessel powered by two Horse Power Outboard engines, capsized in the Essequibo River where the Captain of the vessel is reportedly missing.

The Captain’s name is given as Patrick Reynolds, age 65 of Big Hope Essequibo.

According to the Maritime Department, six other persons who were also in the vessel which was travelling from Itaballi to Teperu in the Essequibo River were subsequently rescued and taken to shore safely by a passing vessel.

The Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) and the Bartica Police are investigating this incident and are also trying to locate another vessel which allegedly caused the vessel to capsize.
