A Trans Guyana Airways (TGA) today explained that one of its planes was yesterday forced to run off the runway at Mabaruma as a result of an animal incursion onto the runway, causing considerable damage to the aircraft and endangering passenger safety, while the aircraft was landing.
According to the local airlines, the matter of animal and, indeed, human invasion of hinterland airports owned and operated by the government and currently under significant expansion and development, “is of considerable concern to Trans Guyana Airways and, indeed, a continuing threat to all commercial and private aircraft utilizing these aerodromes which are not under required supervision.”
Trans Guyana Airways said it has brought this matter to the attention of the Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) as recently as 9th September, 2026, and, again, on 16th June, 2026.
Trans Guyana Airways said it remains at the disposal of the GCAA, together with all other licenced aircraft operators, in collaboration with the Aviation Operators’ Association of Guyana (AOAG), to have this matter urgently and satisfactorily addressed
