The A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) has requested a recount of the votes in a part of Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) – the country’s largest voting district.

This is according to Commissioner of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) Sase Gunraj via a social media post.

GECOM’s Returning Officer for Region Four has declared the results of the General and Regional Elections for that voting district.

Based on the declared results, the PPP/C has won the region – earning almost twice as much votes as the APNU.

In the general elections, the PPP/C got a remarkable 87,536 votes while in the regional, it secured 87,018.

For the APNU – which traditionally controlled the region – it earned 46,956 in the general elections and 46,772 in the regional.
