In a commendable effort to guide at-risk youth toward a brighter future, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) successfully hosted a ‘Youth Engagement Visit’ on Tuesday, targeting four school dropouts from Regional Division Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
The initiative, organised by Assistant Commissioner Dion Moore, Commander of Regional Division Seven, was held at the Divisional Headquarters and Bartica Police Station. The programme aimed to expose the young participants to the inner workings of the Police Force and instill in them a renewed sense of purpose, discipline, and ambition.
During the visit, Inspector Austin, Corporal Peters, and Woman Corporal Bentinck facilitated an interactive tour of various departments, giving the youths a firsthand look into the day-to-day functions of the GPF.
Departments toured included the Enquiries Office, Commander’s Registry, Operations Room, Finance Office, Crime Registry, Court Superintendent Office, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Zara Computer Center, Traffic Department, and Immigration Office.
The officers provided detailed briefings at each stop, helping the participants understand the diverse roles within the Force and how each contributes to maintaining law and order.
A key highlight of the engagement was a motivational session led by Commander Moore himself. He spoke candidly to the youths about the value of education, personal responsibility, and making constructive life choices. He also encouraged them to take advantage of the Zara Computer Center’s resources to build computer literacy and acquire skills relevant for future employment.
The impact of the visit was immediate: two of the four participants expressed their willingness to return to school the very next day. To support this transition, the GPF provided them with new school supplies to help ease their return.
