42-Y-O man fined $25,000 for assaulting child mother

A 42-year-old man was on Wednesday ordered to pay a $25,000 fine for assaulting the mother of his child.

Zafanauth Peters appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, where he pleaded guilty to the charge.

According to the court, Peters unlawfully and maliciously assaulted Tamara Alexander on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at John Street, Georgetown.

In his defence, Peters told the court he did not intend to hit Alexander. He explained that the comments made by Alexander provoked him.

Peters also claimed that he ended the relationship after learning she was unfaithful, and he expressed frustration that she continued to contact him. He added that Alexander frequently torments him online, posting photos of him and his girlfriend.

During proceedings, the prosecutor confirmed that Peters has no other legal matters pending before the court.

Magistrate Azore ultimately fined Peters $25,000 or, at default, one month’s imprisonment.
