Some 40 Cuban nationals living in Guyana have been displaced after a fire this morning ripped through a multi-room rental building located on South Road, Georgetown.
While no fatalities were reported, eyewitnesses said the blaze spread rapidly after electrical cables near the roof began smoking before catching fire.
The building housed an auto shop on the ground floor, while the upper-storey served as the residence.
The upper-storey was completed destroyed while the ground floor sustained some damages.
According to the occupants, the building comprises approximately 11 to 12 rooms, with an average of four persons in each.
All occupants escaped unharmed. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the blaze.
