22 – Year – old remanded for possession of 18 grammes of marijuana

[www.inewsguyana.com]Twenty – two – year old Paul Douglas of South Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was refused bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for the offence of trafficking narcotics.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on December 13, at Stabroek Georgetown, he had in his possession 18 grammes of marijuana. Police Prosecutor, Bharat Mangru told the court that on the day in question at around 20:30hrs ranks from the city constabulary carried out a search on random persons at the Stabroek market area, which included the defendant.

As a result of the search, the prohibited substance was found on his person. Attorney- at – Law Paul Fung- A – Fat represented the defendant and applied for bail, however it was denied. The matter was transferred to Magistrate Ann McLennan for report and fixtures on January 20.
