The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), through the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) and its Environmental Division and Mineral Processing Department, continues to lead the Technical Assistance to Miners (TAMs) initiative across various mining communities and sites in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
The initiative is being undertaken in collaboration with the Guyana Mining School and Training Centre Inc. (GMSTCI), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under the Mainstreaming Biodiversity in Mining (MBIM) Project, and the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC).
As part of the ongoing outreach, the team made stops in Issano and Kangaruma, where they engaged directly with miners on mercury-free alternatives for small- and medium-scale mining, practical techniques to improve gold recovery and reduce gold losses, and safer, more environmentally responsible mining practices.
Through TAMs, the MNR and GGMC, continue to provide direct technical support to miners, promoting improved mineral recovery, responsible mining practices, and the adoption of methods that reduce environmental and health risks within Guyana’s mining sector.
