The Ministry of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation recently hosted the Orientation and Award Ceremony for the 2025 batch of Cuba scholarship recipients.
Guyana and Cuba have maintained 53 years of formal diplomatic relations, founded on earlier trade cooperation and consistently strengthened through bilateral agreements—particularly in the health sector.
For the academic year 2025, 16 students will pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and 2 will pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine.
The keynote address, delivered by Minister Zulfikar Ally, emphasised the vital role of training young professionals in the healthcare field, highlighting the alignment of such scholarships with Guyana’s healthcare development goals, ensuring more Guyanese are equipped to serve as healthcare professionals in the years to come.
The Minister urged these students to fully embrace the academic and cultural experience in Cuba while serving as proud ambassadors of Guyana and preparing to contribute to the country’s healthcare system.
Also in attendance, Ambassador of Cuba to Guyana, H.E. Jorge Francisco Soberon Luis, Permanent Secretary Ms. Soyinka Grogan and Manager of the Scholarships Administration Ms. Deomattie Seeram at the Ministry of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation.
