Police in Regional Division #3 are investigating the alleged murder of Akeem Bannister, called “Boy”, a 17-year-old construction worker of Westminster, La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, and the unlawful wounding of a 26-year-old construction worker of the same area.

The incident occurred on Sunday October 18, 2026, between 15:30hrs and 15:55hrs in the vicinity of a supermarket at Westminster, La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara.

Preliminary investigations revealed that an argument arose following a card game, which subsequently led to a confrontation involving the 26-year-old construction worker and a 30-year-old male vendor of the area.

During the confrontation, the 26-year-old allegedly armed himself with a cutlass and dealt the 30-year-old male a chop to his right hand. The 30-year-old then reportedly drew a knife, and a physical scuffle ensued between them, during which the 26-year-old sustained injuries.

Bannister subsequently became involved in the confrontation, during which the 30-year-old male allegedly stabbed him three times to his lower limbs.

Both Bannister and the 26-year-old construction worker were taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where Bannister succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention. The 26-year-old was also treated at the hospital.

CCTV footage from the surrounding area was obtained and is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.

The 30-year-old suspect has not yet been apprehended.

Investigations are ongoing.
