Police in Regional Division #3 are investigating an alleged Attempt to Commit a Felony, to wit: Robbery Under Arms, which occurred on Sunday October 18, 2026, about 18:25hrs at Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara, during which a 54-year-old self-employed man of the said area sustained gunshot injuries.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was standing in front of a supermarket situated on the lower flat of his residence when he was approached by two masked males on a black motorcycle.
One of the suspects, who was wearing a reflective vest, reportedly dismounted the motorcycle and attempted to forcibly remove the victim’s jewellery. However, the victim resisted.
The suspect subsequently drew a handgun, pointed it at the victim and demanded that he hand over his jewellery. When the victim refused, the suspect allegedly discharged two rounds, striking him in his right ankle and left leg.
The victim managed to escape into the supermarket, while the suspect rejoined the waiting motorcycle, after which both males made good their escape.
The injured man was escorted to the De Kinderen Public Hospital, where he was examined, treated and admitted. His condition is listed as stable.
Police ranks visited the location, where two suspected 9mm spent shells were recovered.
CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed as part of the investigation.
No arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing.
