$11.8M worth of ganja destroyed in Berbice River

On Wednesday, October 29th, 2025, a police operation led by two (2) gazetted officers took place in the Mackimoon Backdam, Upper Berbice River.

During this operation, ranks found two (2) cannabis farms measuring six (6) acres and one (1) acre. The farm had a total of 35,000 cannabis plants that were growing between three (3) to five (5) feet tall.

A makeshift camp measuring about 30 feet by 20 feet was also discovered on the property. This camp and its contents were destroyed. The estimated value of the narcotics destroyed is about $11,858,000 (GYD).

Police investigations are ongoing.
