Woman dies in 2-vehicle collision at Coverden

A 49-year-old woman died on Wednesday evening when a vehicle attempting to overtake another crashed head-on into the car she was driving along the Coverden Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Dead is Cheryl Skeete of Soesdyke, EBD, who was driving motorcar PAM 6733 at the time of the accident which occurred at around 18:45hrs.

Police said Skeete’s vehicle was travelling south along the roadway when motorcar PAM 2468, which was heading north, attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided head-on with her car.

As a result of the accident, both vehicles received extensive damage. Skeete was examined by Emergency Medical Technicians and pronounced dead at the scene.

The 44-year-old driver of the other car was taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment; his condition is regarded as critical but stable.
