Trinidad and Tobago has officially joined the Global Biodiversity Alliance, becoming the latest member of the Guyana-led international coalition.
The announcement was made by President Dr. Irfaan Ali during the 51st Regular CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting in Saint Lucia, alongside Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
The Global Biodiversity Alliance was launched through the Georgetown Declaration and brings together more than 125 countries, institutions and the United Nations to advance global biodiversity conservation.
The alliance aims to strengthen biodiversity financing and support the global goal of protecting 30 per cent of the Earth’s land and oceans by 2030.
President Ali welcomed Trinidad and Tobago’s membership, describing it as another important step in expanding regional and international cooperation on biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
