Minister of Education, Sonia Parag, today had a heartfelt conversation with the Guyanese students who are currently in Jamaica, braving the devastating effects of Hurricane Melissa.

Minister Parag, joined by Chief Education Officer Saddam Hussain, spoke to the students virtually, following their meeting with President Irfaan Ali and their continuous engagements with officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The students confirmed that they are all safe, healthy, and appreciative of the Government’s support. They have since received a quantity of care packages and will soon benefit from additional assistance.

“We are all here for you…and we will do whatever we can to ensure that you are all safe and comfortable,” Minister Parag assured.

The Education Minister, who has been traveling on official duties over the last few days, said that a WhatsApp group would be created to ensure a constant and more convenient line of communication.

The Ministry of Education will soon be sending additional aid to the students, especially as they prepare to resume classes on Monday.
