Berbice accident: Autopsy shows businesswoman suffocated, drowned

A post-mortem examination conducted on the body of 22-year-old Stacy Walton has revealed that the woman suffocated and drowned.

Walton, a businesswoman of Alexander Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice, died after the motorcar she was driving veered off the public road at Number Seven, East Berbice, in the wee hours of Friday, June 20, 2025.

Earlier today (Sunday, June 22, 2025) between 07:30 and 08:50 hrs, a post-mortem examination with dissection was performed on the woman’s body by Government Pathologist, Dr. Bridgemohan at Bailey’s Funeral Home, located at #4 Village, West Coast Berbice.

The body was identified to Dr Bridgemohan by the deceased’s father, Raoul Walton, a 57-year-old farmer from Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice.

“Upon completion of the examination, the cause of death was determined to be Asphyxia and Drowning,” the Guyana Police Force said in a statement today.

The body was subsequently handed over to the relatives for burial

The Police had said that Walton was imbibing earlier in the evening before getting behind the wheel.

According to initial police reports, “She was wearing her seat belt at the time when she lost control of the car, which ended up in a trench on the southern side of the road. The car, which was partially submerged, was spotted by public-spirited citizens who assisted in removing the driver, who was in an unconscious condition, and conveyed her to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.”

Walton was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
