Thirty-three-year-old Jimol Murphy, the brother of US-sanctioned Mark “Demon” Cromwell, has been placed on $1 million bail for the alleged abduction of two Surinamese nationals.
Murphy appeared before Magistrate Shareefa Parks at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him. Police stated that he abducted 28-year-old Van Dalen Lorenzo and 29-year-old Derryl Danillo on August 29, 2026, at Rosignol, West Bank Berbice.
Murphy was represented by attorneys-at-law Siand Dhurjon, Mark Waldron, and Meshon Persaud.

According to reports, the prosecution objected to bail, but Dhurjon argued that the evidence presented did not establish that an offense under the law had been committed.
He reportedly maintained that police had produced no evidence to disprove Murphy’s alibi that he was in Georgetown and Houston at the time of the alleged incident. Dhurjon further submitted that there was currently no evidence indicating that anything untoward had happened to the two men.
Murphy was eventually granted $1 million bail and will make his next court appearance on October 19. The arrest of Murphy resulted in unrest at Vigilance, East Coast Demerara, over a two-day period, which saw the burning of materials, thus blocking the main thoroughfare.
