The scene of the fire. [Alva Solomon Photo][www.inewsguyana.com] – A fire, suspected to be electrical in nature, destroyed the Natural Sciences Building at the University of Guyana Turkeyen Campus on Tuesday night, November 24.
Reports reaching iNews revealed that multiple explosions were heard inside the building during the fire. Members of the Guyana Fire Service battled to contain the flames, which engulfed the flat wooden building sometime around 6:45 hrs.

According to reports, the fire started in the southern section of the building. Students nearby reported seeing smoke and immediately notified the fire service.
Dozens of students converged at the scene while classes were called off for the evening. Also present at the scene was UG’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Elizabeth Ramlall.
The Georgetown Mayor and City Council (M&CC) today issued a notice, advising citizens that parking on pavements within the city is strictly prohibited.
