The man whose body was fished out of a trench at Herstelling, New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD) on Tuesday morning has been identified as 39-year-old Jaigobin Seecharran of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara.
Based on information received, Seecharran resided with his brother and sister-in-law. He was last seen by them on Sunday morning, but he never returned home.
According to the deceased’s sibling, the 39-year-old man would often go on lengthy drinking sprees and disappear for days at a time. As such, when he failed to return home, the family was not alarmed.
This morning, construction workers in the vicinity of Herstelling, New Housing Scheme, EDB reportedly noticed Seecharran’s body floating in the trench and alerted the police.
When undertakers dragged the deteriorated remains out of the trench, it was severely bloated and a putrid smell was emanating from it.
A postmortem examination is expected to be conducted soon to deduce the cause of death.
