Teens granted bail for stealing Blackberry phone

0

Two teens were today placed on $75,000 bail each when they appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore charged with simple larceny.

The two 17 year olds pleaded not guilty to the charge. The court was told that on August 16 at Houston Public Road East Bank Demerara, they together with others robbed Slayter Saul of one Blackberry Phone valued at $80,000.

The police prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that it is a serious offence, the penalty attached and the likelihood that both accused may not return to court for trial.

However, Attorney-at-law Paul Fung-A-Fat represented both youths and while making an application for reasonable bail told the court that he sees no reason why his clients should not be granted bail.

The Magistrate granted bail while ordering that the boys report to the Brickdam Police Station every Friday. They will return to court on September 13. [Royan Abrams]
