Guyana’s national road race champion Briton John delivered an outstanding performance on Sunday, October 11, securing the silver medal in the Elite Men’s Road Race at the 2026 Caribbean Elite and Under-23 Cycling Championships in the Dominican Republic.
John finished second behind Puerto Rico’s Christopher Morales Fontán, who claimed gold after completing the 127.6-kilometre race in three hours, 11 minutes and 19 seconds (3:11:19).
The Guyanese cyclist crossed the finish line in 3:12:47, just one minute and 28 seconds behind the winner, while Bermuda’s Nicholas Narraway secured bronze after John.
The result was a major achievement for John and Guyana, placing the national champion among the Caribbean’s leading road cyclists in a competitive field featuring riders from across the region.
John maintained an average speed of 39.713 kilometres per hour over the 12-lap race, compared to Morales Fontán’s winning average of 40.017 kilometres per hour.
French Guiana’s Benjamin Le Ny finished fourth in 3:14:22, followed by compatriot Julien Chane Foc in fifth position with a time of 3:15:51.
Meanwhile, Guyana’s Andre Greene finished 29th in the Elite Men’s race, crossing the line in 3:36:58.

The remaining Guyanese cyclists experienced a difficult outing, with Segun Hubbard, Aaron Newton and national Under-23 champion Ajani Cutting all exiting the race before the finish. Hubbard competed in the Elite category, while Cutting and Newton were among the younger riders representing Guyana at the championships.
Earlier in the championships, John had finished sixth in the Elite Individual Time Trial, while fellow Guyanese Aaron Newton placed fifth in the Under-23 category.
The silver medal represents the standout result for Guyana’s contingent at this year’s championships, following the team’s participation in both the individual time trial and road race events.
The championships brought together several of the Caribbean’s leading cyclists, with Guyana represented by John, Greene, Hubbard, Cutting and Newton.
