Police are investigating the discovery of copper wire suspected to be connected to the recent theft of copper cables from the Bharrat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge.

On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, about 22:20hrs, as part of the ongoing investigation into the reported theft of copper cables, police ranks went to a location at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, where a search was conducted and two pieces of copper wire were found.

The copper wire was photographed and lodged as part of the ongoing investigation.

A 52–year-old man was arrested and taken into Police custody.

Investigations are continuing.
