Detectives are investigating the alleged Robbery Under Arms of 20-year-old Avinesh Singh, a sales clerk, of an undisclosed amount of cash, which occurred at about 23:15hrs Monday night at Cornhill Street, Stabroek, Georgetown.
The 20-year-old was allegedly robbed at gunpoint by 40-year-old Dwayne John of Lot 56 Bent Street, Werk-en-Rust. The undisclosed sum of money is reportedly the property of Ken Youderian Camacho, a 30-year-old businessman of Houston, East Bank Demerara, who operates ‘Kent Snackett/Cheese Please Stand’, at Cornhill Street, Stabroek.
Preliminary investigation revealed that on the date and time mentioned, the 40-year-old suspect entered the business place and approached Singh, with the gun in hand. The suspect reportedly dealt Singh a punch to his face, pointed the firearm at him and picked up a small box which contained the cash. He then ran out of the business place.
Singh and two other males chased behind the suspect, who discharged several rounds at them, before escaping into Leopold Street.
Police ranks who were on mobile patrol at the time were informed of the robbery, and they made checks in Leopold Street where they apprehended the suspect. A wound was observed on the suspect’s chest.
When questioned about the firearm and cash, he claimed that he threw the firearm and the cash in a drain whilst he was running away. The man took the ranks to the area at Leopold Street. The ranks searched the drain but did not find any firearm or cash.
The suspect is assisting with the investigation.
