[www.inewsguyana.com] – Efforts at the recovery of the body of Essequibo miner Kelton Benjamin in the Pomeroon River has so far proved unsuccessful.

21-year-old Benjamin was thrown overboard following a boat collision in the Pomeroon River, sometime around 19:00hrs on Saturday April 05.

Reports indicate that the young miner of Coffee Grove, Essequibo Coast was traveling along with his sister Keralisa Benjamin and other church members to attend a church service at Friendship in the Lower Pomeroon River.

Police and relatives searched all day Monday without finding the body. The search continued Tuesday and up to late afternoon the body was still not recovered. Relatives have also used private divers to try and locate the body under the water.

The captain of one of the vessels is said to be in police custody assisting with investigations.

Both of the boats were without lights at time of the accident.
