Stabroek Market square being spruced up for Independence celebrations

0
Preparations are in train for the Independence celebrations parade to be held at the Stabroek Market square this year.
INews was reliably informed that the venue, which was identified at the request of President David Granger, will get some much needed sprucing up in time for the historic occasion.
Earlier today (Tuesday), stakeholders involved in the planning of the event were seen at the market tarmac putting in place certain logistical arrangements to ensure the massive event is successfully staged. A large section of the tarmac were barricaded with metal bars to avoid vehicular traffic.
On May 26, 1966, Guyana gained independence from Britain; and last year, for the first time the observances were held at  the newly-constructed Jubilee Park at  D’Urban Backlands in Georgetown. (Carl Croker)
