A Sophia, Greater Georgetown man was on Monday killed after a motor lorry reportedly slammed into him along the the Number 61 Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice. Dead is 31-year-old, Godfrey Wayne Gomes of “C” Field Sophia.
Based on reports received, Gomes reportedly attempted to cross the road but ended up in the path of the motor lorry bearing registration number GVV 5643.
He was quickly picked up and rushed to the Skeldon Hospital where he was treated and later transferred to the New Amsterdam. However, he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
The driver was taken into police custody and is assisting with investigations.
