Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, yesterday received an outgoing courtesy call from the World Bank Group Resident Representative for Guyana, Ms. Diletta Doretti. During the meeting, Minister Singh expressed sincere gratitude on behalf of His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali and the Government of Guyana for Ms. Doretti’s exemplary leadership, hard work, and dedication since assuming her post in April 2022.

Reaffirming the World Bank’s position as a reliable development partner, Minister Singh highlighted Ms. Doretti’s pivotal role in advancing the national development agenda and strengthening strategic ties to build a modern Guyana. Her stewardship fostered sustainable economic growth, human capital development, and climate resilience nationwide, while successfully integrating the World Bank Group’s Operations and Institutional Offices in Guyana to streamline access to both public and private-sector support.

During her tenure, the collaborative efforts between Guyana and the World Bank yielded significant milestones across several critical sectors. In human capital and education, joint efforts expanded and modernized secondary education infrastructure while enhancing teacher training and digital learning tools to improve learning outcomes nationwide. To build climate resilience, the Bank provided critical financing and technical assistance for coastal protection, drainage system rehabilitation, and flood risk management to safeguard vulnerable communities. Furthermore, health system strengthening efforts improved public health service delivery, particularly during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, and expanded access to quality healthcare across rural and hinterland regions.

Ms. Doretti reflected positively on her tenure in Guyana, expressing heartfelt appreciation for the collaboration and reaffirming the World Bank’s steadfast commitment to its ongoing partnership with the country.

The Government and people of Guyana extend their deepest appreciation to Ms. Doretti for her vision, professionalism, and warm friendship, wishing her continued success in her next professional chapter. The Government looks forward to welcoming the incoming Resident Representative and continuing its strong, productive relationship with the World Bank.
