Twenty-four-year-old Greedesh Ramkissoon was on Wednesday charged and remanded to prison for the brutal murder of his mother, Surujdai Kahrui , which took place at their Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara (WCD) home on Thursday.

Ramkissoon, a mason, appeared before Magistrate Rabindra Singh at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court, where the indictable charge was read to him. He was not required to plead to the indictment and, as such, he was remanded to prison until August 7, 2026.

It was reported that the motionless body of the 55-year-old supervisor, also known as “Sharda,” was discovered in her home by one of her sons when he returned from work. Based on reports received, the woman’s head was found next to her right hand.

However, the other son, a mason who was reportedly seen in the house prior to the discovery, was later arrested and charged with the brutal crime. He reportedly told detectives that “something came over him” before attacking and beheading his mother.
