On Monday, October 20, 2025, a heartfelt memorial mass was held at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Brickdam to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the tragic death of Detective Randolph Holder, a dedicated NYPD officer who was killed in the line of duty. The service saw attendance from a number of overseas-based Guyanese as well as officials from the New York City Police Department (NYPD).
Detective Holder was fatally shot on October 20, 2015, while responding to a report of gunfire and a bicycle stolen at gunpoint in East Harlem, New York. He was just 33 years old at the time of his passing. Having migrated to the United States at a young age, Holder served with the NYPD for five years, following in the footsteps of his parents, who were both police officers in Guyana.
The memorial service was attended by Assistant Chief Clint McPherson of the NYPD, Retired Inspector Rhonda O’Reilly-Bovell, also Chief of Police, Sekou Millington of Tracy Police Department, California, Detective Lorraine Wade, President of the Guyana-American Law Enforcement Association (GALEA), other serving and retired members of the NYPD, family and friends.
During the poignant ceremony, Holder’s fiancée, Mary Muhammed, shared heartfelt reflections on their life together. She struggled to hold back tears as she recounted their cherished memories and spoke about the family and friends who had supported him before his death.
Following the mass, attendees paid their respects at Le-Repentir Cemetery in Georgetown, where they honored the legacy of Detective Holder. Among those in attendance were Deputy Commissioner ‘Administration’, Mr. Ravindradat Budhram, other senior and junior officers of the Guyana Police Force.
