A 61-year-old who was arrested for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl at his home on Saturday was found hanging in the Leonora Police Station lockups around 05:30h on Monday morning.
The sexagenarian has since been identified as Bagatram Jailall, of Ocean Garden, Meten-Meer-Zorg,West Coast Demerara.
According to the police, the prisoner was discovered hanging from the lockups window grill by his shirt.
Moreover, it was outlined that four other prisoners were in the said cell.
An investigation has been launched following man’s death.
