Rupununi labourer remanded on narco-trafficking charge

Junior Thomas, a 25-year-old labourer of St. Ignatius Village, Central Rupununi in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), has been charged with Possession of Narcotics for the Purpose of Trafficking, contrary to Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, Chapter 10:10.

Thomas was arrested on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, after he was found in possession of three grams of cocaine.

He appeared today (Thursday, June 11, 2026) before His Worship Magistrate Omadatt Chandan at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him.

Thomas pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison.

The matter was adjourned to August 12, 2026.
