A new Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) administration will put systems in place to fast-track applications for house lots and young professional homes at the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) as well as expand the existing incentives to achieve homeownership.

These plans were revealed today during a consultation on the PPP/C’s manifesto.

In its last manifesto, the PPP/C had committed to provide 50,000 house lots within its first term in office. To date, it has surpassed that promise.

During its next term, President Dr Irfaan Ali said the administration intends to build on the successes of its housing programme to ensure every citizen becomes a homeowner.

“We’re gonna continue to find new and innovative ways in which we can make it even easier for you to own your own homes,” he stated.

The President said the government would expand existing frameworks such as the provision of affordable interest rates, tax and financial incentives, as well as subsidies on construction materials.

The PPP/C noted that the vision is also about building sustainable communities, with concrete drains, streetlights, recreational spaces and security cameras. President Ali said the new administration would also work harder to address issues such as garbage collection and disposal, and community sanitation.
