Police probe shooting near Office of the President

The Guyana Police Force is investigating an alleged discharging of a loaded firearm which occurred on Friday August 21, 2026, about 21:15hrs in the vicinity of the Office of the President, Georgetown.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a Police rank who was on duty at the location reportedly heard what sounded like a gunshot coming from the direction of the Square of the Revolution.

During subsequent checks within the compound, an indentation with surrounding cracks was observed on the windscreen of a motor bus attached to the Office of the President, which was parked on the northeastern side of the compound facing south.

A suspected 9mm warhead was also found on the ground in front of the motor bus and was lodged pending examination.

CCTV footage is being reviewed and several persons have been questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.

Investigations are ongoing.
