Police are investigating an alleged drowning which occurred on Wednesday June 17, 2026, between 12:45hrs and 15:30hrs at Mainstay/Whyaka, Essequibo Coast, resulting in the death of David France, an 89-year-old pensioner of the said area.
Preliminary investigations revealed that about 12:45hrs on the day in question, the deceased was last seen alive at his home. It was reported that he would normally bathe in a canal located about 120 feet east of his residence.
About 15:30hrs, checks were made for the deceased after he was not seen at home. He was subsequently found floating in the canal located east of the residence.
The body was removed from the canal and escorted to the Lima Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.
The body was examined and no marks of violence were seen. It is presently at the Suddie Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
