PNCR Parliamentarian, Natasha Singh-Lewis resigns

People’s National Congress Reform (PNC/R) Member of Parliament, Natasha Singh-Lewis, has resigned, marking yet another senior party official to walk away in recent weeks.

Based on reports, Singh-Lewis tendered her resignation from the PNCR and also gave up her seat in the National Assembly with immediate effect.

This was reportedly communicated in her resignation letter to PNCR General Secretary Sherwin Benjamin today. PNCR Leader, Aubrey Norton, was also copied.

Singh-Lewis is the third female to split from the PNCR – the leading party in the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) faction of the parliamentary opposition.

Earlier this month, MP Geeta Chandon-Edmond, who previously served as the party’s General Secretary, resigned from the PNCR. She has since endorsed President Dr Irfaan Ali and the ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) for a second term in office.

Meanwhile, only last week, another senior PNCR member and parliamentarian, Amanza Walton-Desir, resigned and has since formed her own political party. She had cited a culture of disrespect within the PNCR and being sidelined by the existing leadership.

These three women have joined a long list of persons who have made similar exits from the PNCR over the last few years.
