Works continue at the Gas-to-Energy Project site at Wales, West Bank Demerara, with steady progress being recorded across key areas of the development.
Today, the Guyana Power and Light Inc. accompanied the Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, and Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation, Deodat Indar, on a site visit to observe the ongoing works.
GPL’s team was led by Team Leader, Kesh Nandlall.
The Gas-to-Energy Project is being developed in phases, with the second phase expected to add a further 300 MW of generation capacity through a combined-cycle power plant and a natural gas liquids (NGL) facility.
When both phases are fully operational, the project is expected to provide a total generation capacity of approximately 600 MW, strengthening the reliability and stability of Guyana’s electricity supply.
The second phase is also expected to increase NGL production to approximately 9,800 barrels per day, providing feedstock for various industrial applications and supporting the expansion of downstream industries.
The increased domestic energy capacity is expected to further reduce Guyana’s reliance on heavy fuel oil imports, strengthen energy resilience and support the country’s continued economic transformation.
“As Guyana’s energy landscape continues to evolve, the Gas-to-Energy Project represents a significant investment in the country’s energy security, industrial development and future growth,” GPL said in a statement.
