Pedestrian crushed to death by truck at Bagotstown

See full statement from the Guyana Police Force: 

Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred at about 11:11hrs today (Friday, February 28, 2025), on the Bagotstown public road, East Bank Demerara.

The accident involved a motor lorry (#GNN 9248), owned by Toolsie Persaud Limited and driven by Wayne McBean, a 59-year-old resident of Kaneville, EBD, and a male Pedestrian (of Indian Descent, name, age, and address unknown at this time).

Enquiries disclosed that the lorry was proceeding south along the eastern driving lane of Bagotstown public road when the pedestrian attempted to cross the road from east to west into the path of the lorry and a collision occurred.

As a result, both of the pedestrian’s legs were crushed. The driver, along with public-spirited citizens, picked up the injured pedestrian and placed him into Pickup (# PLL 682) in a conscious condition and escorted to Diamond Diagnostic Center by a Police rank. There he was seen and examined by a Doctor on duty and pronounced dead on arrival.

His body was transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home for cold storage, pending identification, and a post-mortem examination with dissection.

Efforts were made to locate eyewitnesses, and one came forward and a written statement was taken from him. A Notice of Intended Prosecution was prepared and served on the lorry driver. Further investigations are ongoing.
