Pedal cyclist killed in hit-and-run at Ruimzeight

Police are investigating a hit-and-run fatal accident which occurred at about 21:15 hrs on Sunday, 7th September 2025, on Ruimzeight Public Road, West Coast Demerara, involving a minibus (Registration number unknown, driver’s name and address also unknown) and pedal cyclist Mohamed Shazaud Wahab (now deceased), a 41-year-old labourer of Lot 16 Wallers Delight, WCD.

Enquiries disclosed that Mohamed Shazaud Wahab and his brother Ahmad Wahab were riding their cycles side by side to each other. Ahmad Wahab was on the inside (closest to the white line) while the deceased was more to the center of the Northern carriageway of Ruimzeight Public Road. Ahmad told investigators that a white minibus (number unknown), which was proceeding East along the Northern carriageway at a fast rate, collided with his brother, who fell onto the road surface and received injuries to his body.

Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned and the Pedal Cyclist was picked up in an unconscious condition, placed in an Ambulance and was conveyed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was seen, examined and pronounced dead on arrival. The body was escorted to Ezekiel Mortuary for storage, awaiting post-mortem examination.
