Parliament picketed over unilateral appointment of GECOM Chair

A large group of protesters, supported by Opposition Leader, Dr Bharrat Jagdeo and other People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Parliamentarians congregated before Parliament reconvenes on Thursday and demonstrated their disapproval of President David Granger’s unilateral appointment of the new Chairman of the Guyana Elections’ Commission (GECOM), Justice James Patterson.

President Granger is slated to address the National Assembly today (Thursday) following a two-month recess.
