Police ranks, led by a Gazetted Officer conducted an eradication exercise at Fort Nassau, Upper Berbice River between 05:00hrs and 16:05hrs on Wednesday February 25, 2026.

During the exercise, two (2) fields with a combined area of approximately six (6) acres were located, on which approximately two hundred and fifty thousand (250,000) cannabis plants were discovered. The plants ranged between two (2) and six (6) feet in height.

Two (2) makeshift camps and one (1) drying area were also found at the location, where approximately three hundred and thirty (330) pounds of dried cannabis were discovered.
The cannabis plants, dried cannabis, makeshift camps and drying area were destroyed by fire. No arrests were made and the operation was conducted without incident.

The estimated value of the narcotics destroyed is two hundred and nineteen million, four hundred and sixteen thousand, eight hundred and twenty-four dollars ($219,416,824) Guyana currency.

Investigations continue.
