The Guyana Police Force (GPF) late Tuesday evening issued a wanted bulletin for Satrohan Rajkumar, also called ‘Depoo,’ of Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD), who is wanted in connection with the March 2021 murder of Ricardo “Paper Shorts” Fagundes.
Rajkumar is reportedly a mechanic linked to US-sanctioned and indicted Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed.
The wanted bulletin was issued hours after the police released from custody two former security guards of the Opposition Leader and a car dealer.
Mark Richmond and Udoh Kanu, both former security guards of the Opposition Leader, along with Amarnauth Ramsook, a car dealer, were released on $1 million bail each.
The men were initially arrested last Thursday, but the GPF had applied for an extension to further detain the men for another 72 hours. That application was granted on Saturday and ended on Tuesday.
With respect to Ramsook, detectives stated that he had reportedly sold the car used in the execution of Fagundes.
The latest development marks another significant step in the high-profile probe into the killing of Fagundes, who was gunned down outside a popular bar/club on Main Street, Georgetown, on March 21, 2021.
Reports indicate that the man was partying with a group of friends when his phone rang, and he exited the nightspot to take the call. However, shortly thereafter, several gunshots were heard.
The now-deceased man’s friends rushed out to inquire but found Fagundes lying motionlessly in a pool of blood near his motor car. The case remained unsolved for more than five years.
In addition, in an effort to close the case, the Guyanese Government engaged the Regional Security System (RSS) to assist in solving the murder of Fagundes.
The RSS, during its investigation, did not find any evidence of corrupt practices or an attempt to cover up the probe into the 2021 murder of Fagundes.
Meanwhile, as police continue their probe into the murder, they have not disclosed the specific evidence linking the wanted mechanic to the investigation but are appealing to members of the public with information on his whereabouts to contact the police.
