See full statement from the Department of Education-Region Ten (Ministry of Education):
A photograph currently circulating on Facebook, depicting a teacher and pupils seated on the floor, is creating a misleading narrative about a supposed shortage of furniture within our schools. We wish to categorically state that this image does not reflect the true situation and appears to be a malicious attempt to whip up public anxiety and misinform stakeholders.
There is no shortage of furniture at Amelia’s Ward Primary School. The temporary arrangement captured in the photograph was part of a planned and supervised measure to accommodate Grade 6 learners while the school undergoes necessary treatment for fleas.
All efforts were made to ensure that students remained safe, supervised, and engaged in the learning process during this short-term transition.
The Department of Education continues to prioritise the welfare, safety, and comfort of all learners. Temporary adjustments such as these are sometimes required to address environmental concerns promptly and responsibly, and they should not be misinterpreted as systemic deficiencies.
We urge members of the public to exercise caution and responsibility when sharing information on social media. Misinformation can cause unnecessary concern and undermine confidence in the education system.
We remain committed to transparency and will continue to keep the public informed of any developments affecting our schools.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
