Police in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) have arrested 50-year-old Hector Clarkston after he was found in possession of a quantity of marijuana, which he admits to using.
The discovery was made at about 10:33hrs today, when Police ranks on duty at the Sherima Police Station in Guyana’s interior region stopped a motorcycle bearing registration number CP 5616, driven by the suspect, who arrived at the location from Georgetown.
The motorcyclist was searched, but he had nothing illegal in his possession.
A search was conducted on the motorcycle, where a milk tin was found under the seat, and upon examining the milk tin, it was observed that the seal had been tampered with. Upon opening the tampered seal in the suspect’s presence, three transparent bags containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis were found under some milk powder.
The suspect was cautioned and informed of the offence committed. He stated that the substance was his and that he used it for smoking purposes. He was subsequently placed under arrest. The suspected cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 420.81 grams.
The suspect was placed into custody and is assisting with the investigation.
