Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at about 06:30hrs on the Mocha Access Road, East Bank Demerara that resulted in the death of a 60-year-old man, Sookram (only name provided), who resided at 153 Barr Street, Kitty, Georgetown.
The fatal accident involved Motorcar PNN 5140, driven at the time by 25-year-old Shawn Alleyne, and Motorcycle CP 4540, which was driven by the 60-year-old man.
Enquiries disclosed that the motorcar, driven by 25-year-old Alleyne, was proceeding east along Mocha Access Road, allegedly at a fast rate, when the car collided with the 60-year-old motorcyclist who was proceeding in the same direction.
As a result of the collision, Sookram fell onto the roadway, receiving injuries about his body. Shawn Alleyne reportedly failed to stop after the collision, and fled the scene.
EMT’s who visited the scene, found the victim in an unconscious state. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he succumbed to his injuries whilst receiving treatment at about 09:50hrs.
The body of the deceased was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary, awaiting a PME.
Alleyne was subsequently arrested, and escorted along with the vehicle involved in the accident to the Providence Police Station.
Breathalyser tests conducted on Alleyne showed a BAC of .058% and .054%, respectively.
He was placed in custody at the station, pending further investigations.
