Miner busted with marijuana, remanded to prison

Miner[www.inewsguyana.com]A 39-year-old miner was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, charged with trafficking narcotics.

Winston Peters of 97 West Front Road, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the offence that said on Tuesday, December 10 at Seven Mile, Madhia, he had in his possession of 31 grammes of cannabis-sativa (marijuana).

Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the court that on the day in question police ranks on patrol at Seven Mile, conducted a search on the defendant and found a white plastic bag containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be the illegal substance.

Attorney – at – law Paul Fung- A – Fat represented the defendant and applied for bail. However, bail was refused and the matter was transferred to Madhia Magistrate’s Court for January 27.
