Police in Regional Division # 3 are investigating a shooting incident which occurred on Wednesday August 19, 2026, between 13:45hrs and 14:00hrs at Schoonard Highway, West Bank Demerara, involving a 27-year-old man and Police ranks attached to the La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station.
Preliminary investigations revealed that ranks responded to a report of a male walking along the Schoonard Highway with what appeared to be a firearm in his waist.
Upon arrival, a Police rank approached the man, who allegedly drew the object from his waist and pointed it in the direction of the rank.
During the incident, one round was discharged by the Police rank, after which the man reportedly dropped the object and fled into a nearby trench and rice field.
He was subsequently apprehended and was observed with what appeared to be a gunshot wound under his left armpit. He was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he is presently receiving medical treatment under Police guard.
The object recovered at the scene was identified as what appeared to be a black Glock air gun and was lodged as part of the investigation.
Investigations are ongoing.
