Javon Greene, 19, a labourer of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) has been charged with murder and remanded to prison.
It is alleged that on July 24, at Puruni Landing River, he murdered Lakram Rambhajue, a boat captain.
Greene appeared before Magistrate Tariq Mohamed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court where he was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded until September 8, 2025.
Rambhajue, 20, was allegedly beaten with a piece of wood; he succumbed to his injuries four days later at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Greene was arrested on the day of the incident, July 20.
Reports are that the victim had offered Greene one of his boats to operate. However, tensions escalated when the accused repeatedly failed to pay for the use of the boat.
Rambhajue reportedly repossessed the boat and was in turn assaulted. After reporting the incident to the police, Greene promised to pay $100,000.
However, the situation further escalated when Green reportedly threw a glass bottle, hitting Rambhajue and then then lashed him to the head with a piece of wood.
The victim sustained multiple skull fractures; fragments of his skull were lodged in his brain, resulting in hemorrhages. The injured man went into a coma and never regained consciousness.
