Fire at Office of the President

Workers at the Climate Change Unit at the Office of the President rushed out of the building this afternoon after the Air Conditioning Unit caught on fire. The incident occurred sometime around 3:00h.

Fortunately, no one was injured and there were minor internal damages at the Office. Firefighters promptly arrived on the scene, and extinguished the blaze. IMG-20130904-02462

iNews understands that the AC unit has been experiencing difficulties for some time now and despite complaints made by the employees, nothing was done.

Meanwhile, in a statement later, the Office o the President explained that the building was affected by a small fire and that no one was injured.

“The fire was quickly extinguished by staff with support from the Guyana Fire Service (GFS). Work in the Climate Change, Accounts and Personnel Divisions which are all housed in the same building was affected. The GFS is conducting investigations,” the statement explained.
