Guyana is aiming to welcome three million transiting passengers through its ports of entry and attract at least one million visitors by the year 2030.

This was highlighted by Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Susan Rodrigues, during engagement sessions with hoteliers, tour guides, and tour operators at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre on Monday.

Minister Rodrigues explained that the government will be rolling out a series of initiatives to significantly boost travel to Guyana.

Among these are the creation of a comprehensive calendar of activities, featuring at least one major event in each quarter, and the intensification of Destination Guyana’s international marketing efforts.

Acknowledging that many travellers to Guyana are members of the diaspora, the Minister urged hoteliers and tour operators to design special rates and packages tailored to this demographic.

She further encouraged the introduction of Staycation packages to attract locals, particularly during the off-season.

Additionally, Minister Rodrigues proposed a US$200 daily cap for Guyanese travellers—clarifying that while this will not be mandatory, it will serve as a benchmark for inclusion in national marketing campaigns.

She also announced plans for information centres at major ports of entry, giving travellers immediate access to details on key events and experiences across the country.

“We have already started work on establishing a calendar of events, beginning in January 2026 and running right through to December. The idea is simple—if a person is coming to Guyana, they must know what is happening,” the Minister explained.

Minister Rodrigues called on stakeholders to work collaboratively in advancing Destination Guyana, pledging to partner with them in addressing challenges such as high domestic travel costs and inaccessible attractions.
