GRA withdraws tax charges against Nazar and Azruddin Mohamed

The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has officially dropped all tax-related charges against prominent U.S.-sanctioned and indicted businessmen Nazar Mohamed and his son, Azruddin Mohamed, both affiliated with Mohamed’s Enterprise.

The father and son appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Thursday, before Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty, to respond to several complaints filed by the GRA. However, when the case was called, the agency’s prosecutor informed the court that the authority had decided to discontinue all proceedings against them. No further explanation for the withdrawal was provided.

The charges, initially filed by GRA Commissioner-General Godfrey Statia, had alleged that the duo significantly understated taxable income generated from gold exports over the period 2020 to 2024. According to the complaints, Nazar Mohamed was accused of underreporting approximately $29.12 billion, while Azruddin Mohamed allegedly failed to declare roughly $3.61 billion, bringing the combined total underreported amount to some $32 billion.

Both men were represented in court by attorneys Siand Dhurjon and Damien Da Silva. The legal action originated from what the GRA described as a detailed audit of Mohamed’s Enterprise’s gold export records.
